Over the years, God has taught me powerful lessons through personal experiences, ministry encounters, and moments I did not fully understand at the time—but which later revealed divine purpose. One such lesson is captured in the timeless kingdom principle:

“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”

This message is not theoretical. It is deeply personal. It has been shaped by seasons of obscurity, small gatherings, faithful obedience, and moments when God demonstrated that His power is not limited by size, numbers, or human expectations.

Why God Often Starts Small

One of the most profound lessons I have learned is this: God frequently does His greatest work in small, unnoticed places.

There is something deeply powerful about small fellowships and intimate spiritual communities. In such settings, relationships are real, accountability is strong, and spiritual growth is accelerated.

I once found myself part of a very small church—not by choice, but by divine orchestration. At the time, it was not comfortable. There was nowhere to hide. Everyone mattered. Everyone served. Everyone was known.

Looking back now, I can confidently say that season was one of the most consequential periods of my life.

How Small Churches Shape Big Destinies

In that small church:

• I was prayed for personally
• I was discipled relationally
• I was entrusted with responsibility early
• I experienced leadership development firsthand

Because of the closeness of that community, a pastor was able to stand in the gap for me in prayer—especially concerning my marriage. I did not ask for it, but God used those prayers in ways that became evident later.

This level of intimacy and impact rarely happens in large, anonymous settings. Small groups create space for divine intervention.

Expect Great Things from God

A Call to Deep Faith and Spiritual Expectation

To expect great things from God means having a large view of who God is.

It means believing—deeply and prayerfully—that God is:

• Omnipotent
• Faithful
• Able to do far beyond human reasoning

Expectation is not wishful thinking. It is faith anchored in God’s character. When we expect great things from God, we align our hearts with His power rather than our limitations.

True expectation produces:

• Persistent prayer
• Spiritual boldness
• Confidence in God’s promises

Faith That Goes Beyond Personal Ability

When we expect great things from God, we stop relying on:

• Our qualifications
• Our resources
• Our networks

Instead, we rely on God’s grace, wisdom, and timing. This kind of faith is not passive—it prepares us for action.

Expectation without action is incomplete. That is why the second part of this message is critical.

To attempt great things for God means:

One principle that has consistently proven true in my life is this:

A little thing is a little thing, but faithfulness in a little thing is a great thing.

God often tests us in small matters before entrusting us with greater responsibility. Spiritual growth is rarely sudden; it is cultivated through consistent devotion and obedience.

Transformation happens not through occasional spiritual moments, but through daily, disciplined devotion:

• Time in the Word
• Prayer
• Obedience to promptings of the Spirit

Over time, these “small” acts produce deep spiritual maturity and visible transformation.

Scripture consistently shows that God delights in using:

• The unlikely

This ensures that the glory belongs to Him alone.

Every major breakthrough in my life can be traced back to a moment of obedience—often uncomfortable, often unclear at the time.

Why Patience Is Essential in Kingdom Work

God is not in a hurry, but He is always on time.

Great things often unfold gradually. Time allows:

• Character development
• Spiritual maturity
• Alignment of circumstances

To attempt great things for God, we must develop a growth mindset—understanding that spiritual success is progressive, not instant.

God specializes in doing great things through small beginnings and faithful people.
