Every Nigerian needs this baptism of love

As I pause to think of all the flak going on in the social media with respect to our country Nigeria, the Holy Spirit whispered to me that what we need to heal the divisions in Nigeria is THE BAPTISM OF LOVE.

What is this baptism all about? It is about acquiring capacity beyond natural ability, inclinations and sentiments through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I once met a Caucasian lady whose only child was killed either in a car crash or in a robbery attack somewhere in Nigeria. She told me that many people ask her how she could continue to live in Nigeria and love Nigerians after such a tragedy. Her response was that it was this capacity to love that is beyond our natural ability and pains – the love of Christ. It is beyond pain, beyond suffering, beyond marginalization, beyond ethnic and tribal bias and prejudices. It is beyond all the challenges and obstacles we can enumerate and all the wrongs we have identified and are yet to identify.

The world is full of hate, selfishness and greed. All kinds of myopia infect the entire humanity. The us versus them mentality dominates the entire world. Man’s inhumanity to man abound in various guises. Many pretenders to love and care are prancing defiantly on stages all over the world while plotting self-enrichment and self-aggrandisement all the time. Our Lord Jesus Christ brought the Gospel of Love and Forgiveness. He promised to baptize us with the Holy Ghost and with Fire.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives us inner strength. The fire of the Holy Spirit burns up all the hindrances within us that prevent the full expression of God’s love through us.

Rather than join those who spread hate and division, let us all rise and send out the message of LOVE and FORGIVENESS to all and for all. Let us unite our hearts to love our fellow Nigerians and our fellow men and women. Love is the cure for greed, for corruption, for wickedness and evil, for selfishness and pride. LOVE IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW, the end to all strife, the beginning of unity and unity of purpose. Love is the answer to our dilemma as a nation.

Our nation Nigeria cannot take its place in the world without the Gospel of self-sacrificing Love that our Lord Jesus taught us. True love will show up all pretenders to servant leadership no matter their disguise.

Let us join our hearts together in prayer to the LORD God Almighty to baptize us all Nigerians – believer, unbeliever, Christian, Muslim and others with the FIRE OF HIS LOVE.

Holy Father, forgive us for turning the wrong way in our journey to our destiny as a nation. We confess that we cannot become as a nation until we begin to show love to one another irrespective of tribe, language, ethnicity or creed. Love is the fulfillment of all Your commandments. Therefore LORD, baptize us all with Your Love and set us ablaze with the fire of Your love so that we may go out there to build bridges rather than walls and so help one another to become the men and women You have ordained so that together we can become the nation that You have ordained, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.

John 13:34-35 (NKJV) 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
1 John 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Fellow Nigerians, THE SOLUTION we need IS LOVE – unconditional, self-sacrificing LOVE, Amen.
